Operation Technology & Control Systems Engineer - Yallourn Power Station

The Yallourn Controls team plays a critical role in optimising and managing the operation of generating units at the Yallourn Power Station.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Controls Team Leader and forming part of the onsite Process Controls Team at Yallourn W Power Station, the purpose of this position is to contribute to the achievement of EnergyAustralia’s business plans and the safety and reliability of Yallourn W Power Station by developing and managing the implementation of the Yallourn W Power Station control systems and Operational Technologies asset management strategies & life maintenance plans, and providing the engineering & technical direction and guidance.

Role Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Ensure safe, continuous and reliable operation & maintenance of the Operational Technology Platforms and Control Systems at Yallourn W Power Station, and ensure a safe workplace is maintained and that Health, Safety and Environment issues are pro-actively managed.
  • Provide Control System & Operational Technology platform technical engineering expertise and guidance for Yallourn Power Station such as issue investigation & resolution, technical design, change management, project & contract management and coordination, commissioning activities, system documentation, lifecycle management planning, operational troubleshooting, Cyber Security maintenance and investigations where required.
  • Develop & implement procedures, systems & asset management & maintenance strategies, plans budgets, materials & services for the Control System and Operational Technology platforms that achieve optimal plant performance & balancing risk and cost to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, statutory obligations including Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act and the Australian Energy Sector Cyber Security Framework (AESCSF).
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the Controls team members as well as across the business, particularly Operations & Maintenance, OT and I&C Practitioners, strategic vendors and EA Enterprise Security.

What Qualifications, Skills, and Experience are we seeking?

Due to the technical and strategic nature of this opportunity, this role would suit someone with a strong technical skillset and understanding of electricity generation technology systems, control systems, operational technology platforms, and asset management principles as well as the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Relevant Engineering qualifications in a Control System and Operational Technology or related discipline or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
  • Knowledge, experience, appreciation of Control Systems (e.g. DCS, SCADA etc) & Operational Technology platforms (e.g. networking, virtualised environments etc) principles, design, plant, systems, operation & maintenance, used in thermal power stations or heavy industry.
  • An understanding of the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act and Australian Energy Sector Cyber Security Framework, industrial cyber security risk, control and recovery measures, in heavy industry.
  • Well-rounded interpersonal and communication skills with personal organisation skills and ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
