About the Team
The Portfolio Development Team as part of the Trading and Transition business unit are responsible for the origination, development, and execution of activities to transition EnergyAustralia’s portfolio, which is fundamental in our company’s purpose of leading the energy transformation.

About the Role
We’re on the lookout for a Technical Lead (Project Development), to join our Portfolio Development team within Trading & Transition. This key role will drive the technical delivery of EnergyAustralia’s utility scale storage and generation projects from feasibility through to financial close and support transition to project execution as required. The Technical Lead will collaborate across engineering, grid, legal, and delivery teams, and provide leadership across our broader portfolio (including BESS, wind, gas, hybrid assets, and other emerging technologies). Some other key responsibilities of the Technical Lead include:

  • Coordinate and review technical outputs from consultants, OEMs, and project partners
  • Instruct and review layouts, SLDs, and engineering deliverables to align with EA’s design philosophy and cost, safety, and operability objectives
  • Work with the Procurement team on the procurement of the EPC packages in the lead-up to final investment decision.
  • Provide engineering input into connection application, registration and performance standard processes
  • Liaise with grid connection team and consultants to optimise design for compliance and performance
  • Manage and coordinate third party consultants and technical advisors to budget and schedule
  • Utilise experience and knowledge in the analysis of costs, benefits, risks and future business opportunities

About You
To be successful in this role you will be degree qualified with prior Electrical Engineering and Technical experience. With strong people skills, you will have the ability to effectively manage stakeholders, prioritise tasks and work through competing demands in order to deliver on outcomes. Some of the other key things we’re looking for are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Renewable, or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical preferred)
  • Strong understanding of BESS technologies and applications including emerging storage technologies
  • Experience working on hybrid projects is highly regarded
  • Familiarity with different contract structures including split contracting structures and negotiation processes, particularly on technical components
  • Experience leading technical efforts in driving projects to financial close, with strong project management skills to coordinate multiple workstreams.
  • Working knowledge of grid connection processes, NER requirements, and AEMO/NSP engagement
  • Conceptual and analytical thinker able to take complex problems and provide simple solutions
  • Track record of leading technical due diligence on greenfield sites or acquisitions (including layout optimisation, electrical configuration, site constraints and permitting considerations)
