About us

Energy Australia’s purpose is to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all.

This includes managing the transition from reliance on coal-fired generation (as they come to their end of life) to a lower emissions future involving wind, solar and hydro generation supported by energy storage and firming.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional projects leader to take on the pivotal role of Program Director – Transforming Yallourn, responsible for overseeing one of Australia’s most significant energy transition projects.

As our Program Director, you will lead the planning and execution of the closure of the Yallourn coal mine, its rehabilitation, and the decommissioning, demolition, and remediation (DDR) of the Yallourn Power Station.

This is truly a rare opportunity to shape the future of the Latrobe Valley, delivering a legacy project that balances environmental responsibility, community engagement, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, manage, and inspire high-performing owner’s project teams across multiple disciplines
  • Lead the strategic planning and delivery of all works associated with mine closure, rehabilitation, and power station decommissioning
  • Ensure all programs are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and aligned with value commitments
  • Engage and manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including government, regulators, community groups, contractors, and internal teams
  • Oversee risk management, compliance, and reporting frameworks to ensure transparency and accountability
  • Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, and innovation throughout the transformation journey.

About You

You are a seasoned mining or mine rehabilitation executive with a proven track record in leading complex infrastructure or environmental remediation programs.

You will bring the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, project management, etc
  • Postgraduate qualifications or executive training in leadership or business management
  • Relevant certifications in project or program management (e.g., PMP, MSP, PRINCE2)
  • Extensive experience in senior project leadership roles, ideally within, mining, energy or large-scale industrial sectors
  • Ability to process complex technical, regulatory and other matters to effectively communicate and translate into actionable insight and oversight
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement and navigating complex regulatory environments
  • Strong capability in program governance, financial oversight, and team leadership
  • A commitment to safety, sustainability, and community outcomes.
