About the Team 

The Chemical team is responsible for providing industrial chemical services and advice to the Yallourn site, including the production of high quality water supplies and the monitoring of chemical conditions in the boiler and other systems to meet the needs of the Power Station The team is technical based and we are part of the Power Operations Team, based at Yallourn Power Station.

About the Role 

As a Graduate Chemist we will kick start your career in an industrial environment and provide experience in all facets of managing Power Station chemistry. This post requires a proactive and committed team member who can provide appropriate support to the team’s Chemical Team Leader, Chemical Specialists and Chemical Operators. 

This will include: 

  • Managing the water chemistry function in accordance with chemical operating guidelines 

  • Ensuring online chemical instrumentation availability is maintained 

  • Using technical expertise to assist in the investigation, design, planning, installation and commissioning of new systems and equipment for the chemical plant areas  

  • Identifying & communicating process improvement solutions for review by the Chemical Specialists & Chemical Team Leader on an ongoing basis 

  • Assisting with the hazardous materials processes for the Site, including inspections of storage locations and maintaining our electronic register 

  • Undertaking atmospheric testing 

  • Assisting the Chemical Operators with the operation of the Water Treatment Plant and Condensate Polishing Plants  

  • Adopting standard procedures to comply with a range of activities & responsibilities 

You will bring: 

  • Professional Chemistry or Chemical Engineering qualifications  

  • Proactive approach to health and safety including the ability to identify risks and plant defects  

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office product suite 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team and autonomously (at times)
