Engineering Leader (Trading and Ops)

About the Opportunity:

Reporting into the Head of Technology (Trading & Operations), the Engineering Leader is a key technology leadership role, leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team including Software, Integration, Data and Quality Engineering delivery solutions to EnergyAustralia’s Trading & Operation Business Units. Responsibilities include:

  • Create an outcome focused, high-performing hybrid team environment that applies an enterprise lens to all solutions
  • Lead solution design capability, ensuring the designs are cost effective, meet our architectural standards, are highly automated and secure by design
  • Uplift capability by leading the evolution of engineering to a primarily DevSecOps function
  • Ensure team members understand the importance of good technical governance and meet the required functional, technical, performance and usability quality metrics and deliver the intended outcomes
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends and collaborate with the Engineering Practice to integrate relevant advancements into the company's technology stack
  • Develop a continuous development mindset within the team, both professionally and from a technical standpoint

  

About You:

The Engineering Leader is responsible for developing high quality solutions to deliver value to EnergyAustralia and its customers, whilst aligning to business strategy and our technical and architectural standards. To be successful in this role you will need some of the following experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in technical leadership roles covering solution development/solution architecture, software engineering development, and quality engineering in medium to large enterprises
  • Experience working in an outsourced technology environment and managing off-shore vendors
  • Proven relationship management experience working with senior managers and staff, plus the ability to communicate effectively with technology, business unit and executive groups
  • Deep experience in cloud native software development, particularly in AWS and Azure supported by AWS or Azure certification
  • In depth understanding of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and ability to determine appropriate application of each technology choice
  • Extensive experience with many of the following languages, scripting tools, cloud components and automation techniques:
    • Cloud & DevOps: AWS (VPC, IAM, Lambda, EC2, etc.), Azure DevOps, CloudFormation, Terraform
    • Programming & Scripting: Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Swift, Kotlin, SQL, Shell, PowerShell
    • Infrastructure & Automation: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated builds and deployments
    • Monitoring & Optimisation: CloudWatch, New Relic, log analysis, cloud cost optimisation strategies
    • Other tools such as orchestration (Docker) or Apache Suite
  • Deep understanding of information security technologies, security monitoring and implementing improvements
  • Experience with energy supply companies or other highly regulated industries (Nice to have)
