About Us

Globally, energy markets are in transition to a net zero future and the entities within these markets are transforming their underlying business models to ensure that they stay relevant, sustainable and profitable. As one of Australia’s largest energy providers, we are proud of our purpose to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all.

Our ability to deliver on this Purpose will be dependent on how well we choose, invest and deliver on projects and portfolio development opportunities that will strengthen our ability to provide reliable and clean energy for our customers, now and well into the future.

One such project we are thrilled to be pursuing is the Hallett Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).  This grid-scale battery will be developed alongside our gas fired power station in Canowie, 210km north of Adelaide and will have the capacity to power up to 81,000 homes for four hours and there are plans to triple its capacity in a future second stage.

This is where you come in!

About the Role

As the Project Director of the Hallett BESS, you will join us in the pre FID stage and be accountable for the end-to-end execution and delivery on the commitments made at FID.  This will include;

  • Ensuring a commitment to excellence in pre and post FID planning, costing, scheduling & governance to ensure the delivery of project milestones with an unwavering focus on health, safety and quality standards.
  • Developing and leading the project team to build capability for the successful execution of the project.
  • Establishing, building and managing the key contractor relationships for the duration of the project including understanding the contractual agreements and contributing to procurement and contracting strategy.
  • Establishing effective relationships and representing the project to all key internal and external stakeholders including senior executives, regulators, government, community and media.
  • Drawing support from project services teams to manage and track project progress and expenditure against the planned work program.
  • Continually monitoring and managing project risks and taking appropriate mitigative actions, whilst ensuring transparent & regular reporting to the Project Steering Committee.

About you

Ideally based in Adelaide, this role should appeal to an experienced EPCM style Project Director with a genuine passion for contributing to the clean energy transition.    We expect you will bring;

  • Bachlor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline with additional qualifications in Project Management or business.
  • Extensive experience in engineering and construction project development and delivery in the energy sector or a related heavy industrial field.   Previous experience in grid connection projects would be ideal.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Previous experience in delivering large development projects that are underwritten with government contracts and involve external funding (e.g. project finance, equity)
  • Outstanding commercial acumen and well developed stakeholder management and relationship development skills will be considered critical.
  • The ability to travel to site regularly as well as to our Melbourne HQ as required.
