About the Role

As our new Portfolio Analyst you will join the Future Portfolio Analysis team where you will work with a passionate and collaborative team who are focused on the National Electricity Market transitioning to a low emissions grid with high levels of renewable energy and storage. You will assist with the development of the future energy supply portfolio and support portfolio optimisation. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Support and undertake long-term market modelling using Plexos energy simulation software
  • Maintain key Plexos database technical inputs and prepare reconciliations with AEMO planning assumptions
  • Support the development of business cases for new investments
  • Prepare key economic analysis for long-term market modelling such as revenue sufficiency testing for existing generators and NPV analysis for new entrants
  • Build and utilise Tableau or other visualisation workbooks to prepare analysis of results and key on market modelling outputs
  • Analyse the impact of new developments on retail hedging costs and risks

About You:

To be successful in the role, you will have an understanding and passion for the wholesale energy market. You will be naturally analytical, inquisitive and have want to expand your commercial acumen. This role will give you the opportunity to learn or further develop electricity market modelling skills. Additionally you will have some of the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline eg Engineering, Science, Data Analytics (Minimum grade point average of Distinction achieved throughout tertiary studies)
  • A minimum of two years’ experience with energy markets
  • Strong data handling, management and analysis skills and experience with Tableau or cloud-based data tools such as Databricks
  • Experience with Plexos or other electricity market simulation software (Desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to put structure and framing around complex and ambiguous problem statements
  • Experience with risk management products such as financial derivatives and insurance products
