About Us

Globally, energy markets are in transition to a net zero future and the entities within these markets are transforming their underlying business models to ensure that they stay relevant, sustainable and profitable. As one of Australia’s largest energy providers, we are proud of our purpose to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all.

This is where you come in!

About the Role

As our new Grid and Markets Analyst you will join the Future Portfolio Analysis team where you will work with a passionate and collaborative team who are focused on the National Electricity Market transitioning to a low emissions grid with high levels of renewable energy and storage. This role will take a lead in analysing, and explaining the NEM physical power system and how it impacts wholesale markets. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provide Expert analysis and advice on power system modelling – as informs congestion, mlf, system strength, grid connection processes, etc
  • Identify future risks and opportunities including revenue streams from market ancillary services
  • Work with external power flow consultancies to understand their integrated power system and market dispatch modelling methodologies.
  • Support project development teams with grid connection design reviews and power system studies to help with site selection, optioneering and progressing connection processes
  • Work with the Assets teams and commercial analysts to lead bids and pricing of non-network options to TNSP’s under the new efficient management of system strength NER provisions
  • Ensure FCAS modelling closely integrates with how we bid our assets and our in-house Plexos market dispatch model (and support FCAS revenue modelling)

About You

You are someone with an understanding and passion for the national energy market. You will be naturally analytical, inquisitive and have want to expand your commercial acumen. This role will lead the design and management of power system models to assist EA in understanding the value of portfolio projects and market services.

You will bring;

  • Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or another relevant quantitative discipline.
  • Self-motivated with passion and interest in power systems and at least two years of NEM experience.
  • Energy systems or PSSE (power systems steady state analysis) modelling experience essential. Experience with Plexos or other energy dispatch market simulation tools highly desirable.
  • Strong skills in data quality control, extraction, analysis and management including use of database tools and data visualisation products such as Tableau.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A keen sense and interest in identifying and translating technical themes into commercial opportunities.
