About the role

Based in Yallourn Victoria on the traditional lands of the Gunaikurnai people, the mine produces coal for the adjacent power plant. Yallourn mine has been operating for approximately 100 years, EnergyAustralia has recently made the decision to cease operations in mid-2028, you will join our Mine Services Team and be assisting in mine closure planning and implementation. 

We are building a team to assist in coordinating and managing the development and implementation of mine closure plans, studies, projects and stakeholder engagement deliverables. This is an exciting opportunity working within a small team of mining professionals, this role includes but not limited to:

  • Heavily involved in writing and updating of Declared Mine Rehabilitation Plan
  • Assist in the production and updates of relevant required regulatory documents (Declared Mine Rehabilitation Plan etc.)
  • Project management of and participation in technical studies
  • Scoping, timing, procurement of technical studies,
  • Management of the individual technical studies budget
  • Assisting in engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited – Government (Declare Mine Rehabilitation Authority, ERR, DEWLP, Latrobe Council etc) GLaWAC, and Community
  • Assisting in the development of useful tools for engagement
  • Assisting with internal financial closure modelling

The purpose of your role is to assist in all the activities associated with preparing and implementing mine closure plans in a cost effective and efficient manner. This will see you be involved in assisting in the development of, updating and obtaining Government approval of the Yallourn Mine Declared Mines Rehabilitation Plan to enable Yallourn Mine to smoothly transition into closure and minimise the associated costs.

What you’ll bring:

Been locally based in Yallourn region you will join a supporting team in planning the mine closure whilst working closely with the mine technical services, stakeholders and contractors. Ideally, we are looking for.

  • Experience with mine closure / rehabilitation planning experience and closure policy / regulations
  • Tertiary Qualification in geoscience, environmental science, mine engineering or relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of risk management practices and ability to prioritise work on the basis of risk impact
  • Demonstrated experience working in mining sector, environmental consultancy and or government in an environmental/ mining role.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement relevant to mine closure
  • Skilled leader who exhibits genuine care for the wellbeing and safety of your team with demonstrated experience leading a team of technical professionals
